Check Recommended Tyre Pressure with new iPhone App
Those of you with iPhones can now simply input your vehicle registration details and be provided with the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended tyre pressure settings. The app has been launched by TyreSafe as part of tyre safety month and is completely free.
The effects of under-inflated tyres
We have detailed the issues about under-inflated tyres helping save fuel, with the Michelin’s ‘Fill Up With Air Campaign’ highlighting research into just how much fuel is wasted in the UK, around £440 million. Under-inflated tyres are also less likely to suffer from a motorway blowout as the tyres are subject to excessive heat, with the driving ability also affected and wearing out much quicker.
Stuart Jackson, chairman, TyreSafe explains:
“Many drivers tell us that they don’t check their tyre pressures because they are unsure of the correct settings. The new TyreSafe iPhone app completely removes this problem and instantly provides drivers with their car’s tyre pressure information. So whether they’re on their driveway at home, the supermarket filling station or at the services on the motorway, iPhone users can be sure of having the correct information to hand.”

Remember these few tyre pressure safety points:
- Check tyre pressure every month and before long journeys
- Find the recommended tyre pressure in the vehicle handbook (or drivers door sill)
How to fill up your tyres with air
You can find air dispensers at most petrol stations to fill up your tyres with air.
- Set the machine to the appropriate PSI/BAR pressure setting
- Attach air hose to the tube on your tyre
- The machine will fill up the tyre with air until it stops/starts beeping
Remember to repeat this with all four tyres or if you don’t feel comfortable, check in with a tyre specialist. Many of them are actively supporting Tyre Safety Month during October with free checks, one of them being our associate National Tyres & Autocare which are offering customers free tyre checks. An important issue especially for those without winter tyres through the upcoming bad weather.
